The Great Gatsby

I have to interrupt my good flow of Spring 2013 fashion Week with this post on The Great Gatsby. Ever since I've seen the trailer and the news of the artist involved in the soundtrack, I've been waiting to watch for the longest time. And about 2 weekends back, it was finally out! Have you watch it yet? If you have not, please do!

And for those who isn't quite fond of the movie... I'm speechless. There's Leonardo, Carey and Tobey Maguire! Moreover, behind the scenes are another power house collection of artists such as Beyonce, Fergie, Lana Del Rey, Florence + The Machines! (I'm hooked on to Lana's Young and Beautiful and Florence's Over The Love. LOVE LOVE LOVE!)

For those who are a bit confused about the plot... The Great Gatsby is more than just a love story between the beautiful Daisy and wealthy Mr Gatsby. It's a story to portray the social situation of the 1920s. All the glam, all the drugs, all the partying, all obsession of wealth and money. Also, it was a feast for a fashion student like me, the movie was showing the flapper era in all full motion. I was totally in love with Carey Mulligan's costumes in the show. (The men's costumes were great too). I've also included some stills from the 1974's The Great Gatsby. In contrast, the 2013's Daisy is much more glamorous and reflects more of what the 1920s fashion is about. And all thanks to Prada for their contribution of the movie. Most of the costumes you've seen in the great enchanting party scene at Mr Gatsby's are provided/designed by Prada (pictures below that are from the Prada x Great Gatsby exhibition in NYC). No doubt we will see The Great Gatsby winning the Best Costume in the coming Oscars.

The whole scene of The Great Gatsby was breathtaking. At some point I really wished I was part of all that. Ooohhh.. the 20s!
