Paris Fashion Week Part III

This is the final blog post I'm doing for Fashion Week... Kinda sad really.
And what I'm left with are the collections from top brands. Get ready for very vibrant colours and/or cute prints.
However, I shall start off with, what i thought, the not-so-great S/S2011 collection- Emanuel Ungaro. The show's set up was interesting, tons of greens & flora. But I spot some really old, hagged looking model which really puts me off. The collection, to me, seems like an imitation of Dolce & Gabbana with the laces and everything. It looks to me as if this collection's mood board (a.k.a. inspiration board) are full with collections of other brands. Then every thing's put together, some parts edited and launched as S/S2011 collection. In other words, there isn't unique-ness there.

Anyway enough of disappointments, onto those which really shine. Alexander McQueen was one of them. I believe many of us are looking out for this collection as this is the first collection launched after the creator's death. I can say, yes I do see a little of McQueen in it but I think it might be a little too tame to consider it fully to be what is the late A. McQueen's designs. Still, I'm glad the McQueen's magic isn't entirely lost.
The entire collection feels like fairytale... Pixie fairies celebrating Spring. Adorable!

Not all collections are inspired by Wonderland. Kenzo & Louis Vuitton are inspired by the East. While amateurs relates Harajuku to Japanese Fashion... What really is downright, local and traditional Japanese to me are their Kimonos (Japanese traditional costume). I totally adore the prints and fabrics used. Kenzo did really well of infusing modern with the traditional. The original prints, fabrics and the idea of high clogs were used with modern silhouette.

Louis Vuitton, on the other hand, goes Chinese. Like Kenzo being inspired by a traditional costume, LV too introduces the beauty of the Chinese's Qi Pao for S/S2011. The floral prints, lace fans, Mandarin collar and what seems like military buttons are all very Chinese-ish. Oh and I love the marbled runway, very very luxurious. If you want me to say one thing that isn't all 5 stars, it would be the shoes. Such great outfit should be paired off with better shoes because great shoes completes the whole look.

Metallic is also seen quite a few times in Fashion Week and usually they're done with simple geometric cuts. However, Loewe & Miu Miu bring metallic to another different level. There're colours and prints incorporated with the metallic!! There is seriously nothing else to say, it's just cute, quirky and gorgeous.

And phew, this is the last of Fashion Week. Hope you've enjoyed reading my review like I've enjoyed writing it. I promise to do this for the next Fashion Week. *squeal*

With much love,
Mabelle
